My name is Maddy. You can call me Maddy or columnar. I am from the United States, but I'm currently living in London. Welcome to my Sims 2 Dreamwidth! This journal will provide links to my uploads on Garden of Shadows, as well as the occasional content that I don't upload to GoS, which can include sims.
I may also picspam from time to time. Why not?
I don't own Sims 3, so for the time being, everything posted here will be for/about Sims 2.
FYI: It has come to my attention that Tinypic has retroactively compressed my images, putting artifacts in my preview pictures and generally making them look like crap. If the picture looks bad and you're concerned, don't want to download without seeing it, etc., then leave me a comment, and I'd be happy to re-upload the preview so you can see how it's supposed to look.

( My Uploads )

As promised about a week ago, I did run many color actions over the ceramic tiles I made for AlfredAskew's CIJ gift. After some procrastination, and some game crashes (grr), I took some preview pictures and got the post up on Garden of Shadows. Click the picture above to go to the post and download. :)
I'm rather displeased with how some of my images were compressed; I used "save for web" in photoshop, which reduced picture filesize, but also reduced the quality a lot more than I anticipated, and by the time I saw how the looked when uploaded to imgur, I wasn't about to remake the 20+ images I'd already finished. But, suffice it to say that everything looks bright, clean, and crisp in-game. :P
So, I participated in Christmas in July over at GoS this year. My Secret Santa was CaptainObvious a.k.a.
zecaptain, and her gift to me was AWESOME. You can see it here!
In addition, I was AlfredAskew's secret santa! We've both been really busy these past several weeks, but the stuff I made for her has been posted now. Click the preview picture below to go to the gift post. :)

Additionally, I have plans to run some color actions over some of the floors I made for the gift, so those should be coming... at some point. Hopefully soon. I moved to London two weeks ago and just started my master's program this past week, so I am crazy busy! But I'll manage to make some time for myself. :)

Raon f96 Pookleted
Jul. 17th, 2011 05:41 pm
Here is Raon f96 in all of Pooklet's naturals, using CaptainObvious' fixed mesh, texture, and alpha. (Thanks, CO!) CaptainObvious' version is here. It is perfectly lovely, but I wanted this hair in all 16 colors. I used her texture but re-lengthened the adult alpha, so it's longer and matches the rest of the ages.
Uncompressorized (sorry, I forgot). Teen-Elder, other ages removed. Binned and familied. Elders go gray, with Pipe Bomb, Mail Bomb, and Time Bomb available, linked to black in families 1, 2, and 4, respectively. FIXED MESH is included; if you have the original, delete it and use this instead. Additional previews, unedited but for resize: side 1, side 2, back, in black.
Alternate

As promised, curtains of the expensive basegame shower recolored in CuriousB/Eclectica's "Any Color You Like" actions. Finally! Additional previews, unedited except for border/resize: another color, dirty state.

ETA: TinyPic has compressed my pictures to grainy crap. I promise that these recolors look normal and non-pixellated in-game.
Cameo: a wall set

I also created a collection file so you can easily find the walls in-game. Download the collection file separately here or here (alternate).
Files are compressorized and mac-friendly. Walls cost 6 simoleons in-game and are found under Paint.
ETA: Tinypic has retroactively compressed my previews into crap--so sorry! I'll try to replace them at some point. Rest assured that there is no JPG artifacting in the actual files or in-game.
temporary sims hiatus
Sep. 26th, 2010 01:30 pmNot that it means much to you all, since I haven't exactly uploaded anything recently! But I have midterms and the GMAT and holy crap how did I get so behind so fast? Oh, school. Oh, self.
When I return, I hope to have that hair I previewed a while back. I also plan to make Aelia-color versions, and maybe a few other random colors, of those shower curtains I Pooked before. I realized I needed some curtains that were a little less aggressively colored.

Dreamwidth codes and WIP
Aug. 26th, 2010 07:03 pmHey guys. I have some dreamwidth codes, so if you still need one and didn't get one from someone else already, feel free to leave me a comment here with your email address. I'll delete the comment after I send you a code so your email isn't just chilling on the internet for all to see. ;)
In other news, I'm in the middle of moving back into college for my senior year (augh I am not ready for this to be over), which of course means hanging out a lot during the day instead of unpacking boxes. In an effort to be at least somewhat productive, I retextured a hair. I like Agustin's "sexy pushed back" hair, but the textures didn't match the rest of the hairs I have, so I decided to Pook it.

The picture on the right shows a couple of imperfections, presumably in the mesh, since I didn't mess with the alpha or anything at all, and I know that seam was there before I retextured. I haven't checked out my version in-game yet, so I'm hoping it won't be so visible outside of bodyshop.
Uncompressed, my recolor files add up to about 16 MB, which is bigger than I'd hoped. The original version, with its 8 naturals and 1 elder hair, is 5.25 MB; mine, of course, has all 16 Pooklet naturals, plus 3 elder grays. I took out the toddler and child versions because the mesh doesn't work for those ages, but unfortunately the files didn't get any smaller. :P One great thing is that this is a relatively low-poly mesh--3262 polys, according to Agustin's original post. Huzzah!
Anyway, I'll upload this at some point, after I get a chance to take previews.

My contribution to the August theme at GoS
Aug. 2nd, 2010 12:11 pm
NOTE: requires Pets.
On another note, this weekend I visited family up in western Massachusetts. We went to see a Shaker village, and suddenly Buggybooz' Shakerlicious kitchen made sense to me! I had no idea why it was called that until I actually saw Shaker furniture.
curtains yay
Jul. 24th, 2010 12:47 amI contributed to a GoS monthly theme for the first time! You can find my post here--I recolored the curtains that come with the basegame expensive shower-bath to be in solid Pooklet unnatural colors, a delightful alternative to the horribly limited (and sometimes just horrible) options Maxis gave us. I am unreasonably proud of myself.
One of these days, I hope, I will move on to more difficult recolors, as well as doing something beyond just applying Pooklet's textures to everything. They're great, obviously, and I use them a lot, but I'm working on advancing my skills a bit. :)
